I started off learning piano at around 6 years old, but only realised my ear for music when I could pick out melodies I heard on the radio & from then on I started writing my own music & playing long into the night, to the point where my parents told me to stop so they could go to sleep!

In my teenage years I joined bands & learnt basically on the fly how to work as a group. Once I realised that keyboards were not as portable & able to be played on beaches / around campfires, I taught myself guitar. By adding drums, harmonica & bass to my arsenal, the stage was set for a fully working band to record in my garage. Since setting up my home studio, I love recording a tune each week & especially love collaborating with all the extremely talented musicians on the internet

Alternative Rock, Adult Contemporary, Theatrical & Moody
Every now & then, I like to sing to my melodic creations. So if you haven't heard my voice yet, here is a piece that might interest you. I wrote the song & played all the instruments. It was inspired by a relationship break down by someone close to me & the feelings that might go through their minds as the whole thing falls apart.

Rock, Ballad, Adult Contemporary, Soft Rock, Stevee, Simon Reich, Simon Reich Music
Steve Elliot is a great UK singer / songwriter / guitarist living in Russia. His recent release "Crazy" caught my ear as a song I'd love to reinterpret. Thankfully he let me take his work & create another version. I used Steve's vocals & some of the guitar tracks, but then added my own drums, bass, keyboards & backing vocals. All completed on real instruments (which I know Steve is also passionate about). Here is the result. Remember to visit Stevee on Musicoin, Soundcloud & his other social media sites, for more of his inspiring music.

Pop, Country, Adult Contemporary, Soft Rock, Simon Reich, Simon Reich Music
Acoustic guitar begins the song with singing by Simon Reich. All drums, bass, organ & piano added later to bolster the full sound up. If you've only listened to my instrumentals in the past, this is a chance to hear my voice, not only as the lead vocal, but also all the harmonies. It tells quite a story, so sit back & take a listen. Hope you all enjoy it!!

Rock, Remix, Jon Magnusson, Simon Reich, Simon Reich Music, Always a Rebel
When Jon Magnasson released his album "Always a Rebel", I really liked the song "Set me on fire". I asked him if I could do a reinterpretation of the track & he happily agreed. I only used the main vocal stem from the original & all the rest was recorded with real instruments (that's right, REAL INSTRUMENTS), finally adding harmony vocals to support the chorus. Using a strong bass & drums, I've now made this song a funky, powerful track that is quite a contrast to the original. I hope you like it?

Piano, Rock, Adult Contemporary, Fender Stratocaster, Mesa Boogie
I love the raw energy of rock! I started this tune out as a hard hitting piano based track (hence the name). I then added the pounding drums, driving bass & then strapped on my Fender Stratocaster & smashed out some rhythm tracks & a blistering lead break. This type of music is lots of fun to play & arrange. The solid beat satisfies my primal urge. I hope it makes you feel good as well :)

Piano, Ballad, Singer-Songwriter, Emotional, Acoustic Guitar
How do I know, if you're right for me? How do I know? This is probably a very common question when people are in a relationship. What makes us right for each other? Do we sometimes feel like we are right for our partner, but they don't feel the same way? This conundrum has probably been around since the dawn of time & will continue until the end of civilisation. It's with this question in mind, I set out to create a song, using the piano as a basis & then adding layers of strings & electronic backing. Finally topping off the recording with an acoustic guitar solo.

Fender Stratocaster, Piano, Hammond Organ, Rock, Simon_Reich_Music, Simon_Reich
Sometimes when I hear music, I see a colour in my mind. Listening to music made from organic instruments such as guitars, piano, organ, drums etc. makes me see the colour brown. Maybe it's because these instruments are made predominantly of wood? Enjoyed the rock of the 70's, so this tune is a throw back to some of those sounds using Fender guitar, Hammond organ, piano, harmonica, drums & bass. Loved playing all the instruments myself.

Progressive Rock, Rock, Simon Reich
Yamaha CP80 piano underpins the start of this tune. Retro progressive rock sequencer helps make this track sound like something from the late 70's. I haven't recorded a progressive rock tune for a while, so I thought it was time to jump back into the water.I Iove the way Prog Rock can move through a lot of moods & tempo changes within one track, yet retain it's thread throughout.

Electric Piano, Rhodes, Classical, Instrumental, Original, Relaxing, Soothing, Violin
The first instrument I ever bought, was a Rhodes Electric Piano. It's been the best investment I ever made. I love the mellow tone it puts out. Once I'd improvised the main theme, I then added violins, violas & many other stringed instruments to add some emotion to the tune. Hopefully this will relax you & put you into a space where the worries of the world are left behind.

Ambient, Piano, Orchestral, Instrumental
Before I start to describe the sound of this track, I want to make it clear from the start, that our natural fauna are the world's greatest musicians. We are just playing catch up! I didn't want this tune to have the forest samples just slotted in for light relief in an already completed music piece, I wanted this to be a duet with the birds & insects. That's why in this track, all the samples are brought right up in the mix & it's actually them who are supplying the most interesting musical moments, as I downplayed my own musical statements, so their sounds would totally shine. I love field recording, so this also includes some of my own personal collection. There are some native birds from the Kakadu national park in Queensland Australia & lots of water recordings as well, to give that whole "forest" feeling. ENJOY!

Piano, Ambient, Instrumental, Melancholy, Simon Reich, Simon Reich Music
This track was conceived when I was quite down, hence the melancholic feel to it. Using piano as the main instrument & melody, I then layered atmospheric sounds & rhythm into the background, to give the track some spaciousness. You'll be glad to know that by the time I'd finished mixing & mastering it, i was feeling better! Music is one of those cathartic expressions that can really help musicians expel negative emotions. In fact, some of the greatest moments in art, have had their genesis in some fairly tortured artists, me included.

Jazz & Blues, Piano
As I have already written in the description of another blues piano tune, the first time I heard blues performed on the keys, was by a monkey on TV. Not sure how they did it, as this was before the CGI days, but this monkey started playing blues on an old piano & then gradually got faster & ended up "tearing the house down". I was hooked to say the least. The blues are so much fun to play & always get a great response from all ages of listeners.
