Drumstep downtempo NuJazz
This tune was inspired by a conversation Zig (@onemedia) had on his 'radio' podcast, 'Spotlight On The Artist' with D-Vine (@d-vine) and their guest at that time, Nicky Havey (@nickyhavey), about how the electronic music style of Drum-and-Bass when played at half tempo is called 'drumstep' and here also represents a Nujazz sound Zig and Nowhere Near thrives in. Here you have a bunch of percussion instruments playing to the 'boom bap' kick drum and snare alternating Break pattern of '1,2, AND 4' often sampled and altered from the legendary 'Amen Break' but here no samples were used other than those intrinsic to the Korg T1 sound generation. Here you'll also get a sense of hardstep from the intermodulated sub bass. Zig's custom chiptune box, the SIDnth can be heard keeping straight sixteenths in its noise and ring-modulated loop as eighth notes at a native 173 beats per minute suitable for Drum-and-Bass or here as sixteenth notes at 86.5 beats per minute... Then there's the swing shuffle feel throughout ... Also an influence to this tune was another conversation during the same show with Jeff Leinwand (@jeffleinwand) about thematic development 'call-and-response' which in this rather polyphonic head arrangement, you'll hear a number of examples. Finally a shout out to Termite (@termitemusic) for his show 'Know What I Mean' where Zig's hanging, jamming, and all-around stretchin' out to downtempo Trip Hop is de rigueur.

Ambient/chill-out, Downtempo, nujazz
This tune raises the standard for some of the best work yet that these two musical collaborators have come up with. Tyger Tyger prompted Zig and others with options on how to proceed, and Zig chose to finish the track as he saw fit. Indeed, Zig saw and heard one of Tyger Tyger's most sensual and nostalgic recordings ever, reminiscent of the sound of longing and sweetness of two legendary Jazz vocalists, Billy Holiday and Blossom Dearie. He found himself swept back to a time when, perhaps out of necessity imposed by world war and great economic depression, the genders (ostensibly) effectively well-complemented each other, before the term 'opposite sex' was loosely bandied about, and thus he sought in accompanying Tyger Tyger here, to appropriately complement and somewhat modestly adorn the firm yet delicate and thoroughly sensual musical homestead Tyger Tyger made for a contemporary soundscape.

Progressive Metal, Funk Metal, Punk Jazz
Originated from drum tracks Tom Gent sent to Zig, Zig immediately recognized the punk and speed metal influences. To that he accordingly added punchy round wound string bass, and a few distorted guitar and organ patches, all the while thinking to himself, "How do we know it has an iron core, other than it stands to reason that iron is the first heavy metal to form from the particles ejected in the big bang?"

Originated from drum tracks Tom Gent sent to Zig, Zig immediately recognized a cyberpunk feel to the tracks. Recorded August 19, 2018, "Falling, Running, Flying" is a dream ambient electro-acoustic tone poem depicting the most common hypnagogic sensations and rapid eye movement states ... Though one typically does not experience all three very often and it would be extraordinarily rare to have all three in one night of rest, the composer decided to take the 'most popular' subconscious themes as a unified musical whole in this work. Violin is played very much mimicking the analog synthesizer that preceded it when building tracks, especially the manual portamento of fretless technique in reference to knob-turning, but also the violin pizzicato in relation to probing the PAiA Gnome ribbon controller towards the end of this recording.

You know that groove, how everything swings when you Intuit Into It ... The solo section uses a Minor/Major Ninth chord intentionally alluding to Horace Silver's tune, "Nica's Dream"... Nica, of course being the woman of legend, estranged from her extraordinarily rich and powerful family, who took it upon herself to not merely support the arts, but to literally nurse two of the greatest creators of the Bebop Jazz idiom in their darkest times of need.

One Media® presents it's project, Nowhere Near and its Jazztronica violincore tune recorded today, June 20, 2018 entitled 'Zap' ... A hundred some years ago we found the wave particle duality paradox through a double slit experiment, so here, Nowhere Near represents a 'Ray of Sunshine' in short 'Zaps', art imitating nature and so forth, as the sun obviously doesn't always shine. Shorts zaps of particles we call photons or flowing as bursts of wave packets through electro-magnetic fields, the energy that is, the essence of life itself.

In this present recording, use of analog instruments was emphasized, particularly the PAiA Gnome analog synthesizer. Besides electronics, one may consider the violin, as an 'analog' instrument, for the fact that it is fretless, thus effectively does not form a discrete, as in digital, form of pitch control. Here the composer takes full advantage of the continuous pitch control capabilities of the violin by sliding into pitch as if to mimic the frequency knobs of Voltage Controlled Oscillators typical of analog synthesizers, likewise also heard in this recording.
