This song was written whilst I was looking in the eyes of my 2 week old daughter. I mean, it felt like she was transmitting information from the other realms straight into my heart. I literally had written it in it's entirety those magical few minutes. It calls upon us to imagine how amazing our world could be if we all loved each other unconditionally the way a parent loves their child... And it is possible, "... If we just open our hearts, open our minds, open ourselves to be free..." Am I talking about a paradigm of utopian proportions? I know it sounds like an impossible goal to attain, but shouldn't we at least try. Let's face it, so many people place focus on a dystopic future as if that were actually possible (no, it's not and never has been possible), but quickly dismiss a possibility of creating a truly beautiful world free of war or call entertaining the notion as cheesy, but that is just indoctrination as I'd mentioned briefly in my Steemit post 'The Smiling Perception' https://steemit.com/life/@nathankaye/the-smiling-perspective-2018-05-05-22-47-03 Well, I hope this tune lifts your spirits as it did with mine the minute I had written it... One man. One Didgeridoo. One twelve-string guitar. One set of foot drums. This song called, I Once Met a Wise Woman, with the positive affirmation chorus of DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY is taken from my Lucky Man album - <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/au/album/lucky-man/377167695" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">itunes.apple.com/au/album/lucky-man/377167695</a>. It was performed live in the studio as a one-man band to a studio audience one very hot, sweaty Summer's night in Sydney, Australia. As with all of my one-man band performances, everything was played by me simultaneously without any loops or prerecorded material. (I did later sing a vocal overdub to add an extra flavour of sweetness whilst the didgeridoo was playing) Huge thanks to you! © & ℗ Nathan Kaye February 2009. All rights reserved.

There’s nothing quite like a phat didge riff in a classic-style electronic dance music track with a conscious lyric beat poem and co-produced by me. Okay, so this is vastly different to what you’ve heard from me before. But I am a creator and I am influenced by many different things this is just a different side of my expression. This is a track I recorded with a live EDM band I was in based on Lamma Island, (near Hong Kong) China, called 'Noisefloor.' We would do 6 hour long gigs in Hong Kong and in parts of China. And this track definitely got the dance floor pumping every time it was played!! The band consisted of a live drummer (drumkit & Djembe), funk bass player, 2 DJs, and myself doing my multi-instrumental thing (Vocals, Didgeridoo, electric guitar).

An Uplifting, Conscious tune to help shift perspective and feel good about life! I penned this song as heartfelt, comforting advice to a friend that was going through very hard times and couldn't see their way out of the black dog of depression, But the honest truth is that it wasn't just that. You see, at around the same time, I was going through the heartbreak of the end of a long-term relationship, but instead of having the emotions swallow me up, I found an incredible cleansing freedom in the intense emotions I was experiencing. I allowed the tears to wash me clean of the cause of the pain I was feeling in that moment. Every moment is just a moment. Everything comes in waves. The good. The bad. They ebb and flow like the waves of life. Sometimes we're up, but the good times don't last. Sometimes we're down, but the bad times don't last. When we're in those down times it's so important not to make an assessment our life. Why? Because it isn't the entire truth of your life or who you are. As the lyric of the chorus poignantly illustrates; "Now hold your head up high, 'Cause it's your life, It's just a moment in your life, Don't focus on that strife, Just let go & you will see, This too shall pass, And it's your life, It's just a moment in your life, Don't let the moment define who you are, 'cause in truth YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!" I know you hear many say, "just reach out" etc. and I know how hard that is to do when you feel like you are stuck in a deep, dark hole and just wish someone could reach in and pull you out into the light, but, whether you believe it or not, your life is directed by you and you can talk to someone. If you're too embarrassed to open up to a friend or feel like you don't have any 'real' friends - believe me, most of us feel that way-, then reach out to one of the many free depression or suicide hotlines in your country and speak to someone there. It can really, truly make a difference. Besides, you may as well try that as an option. And if you know or suspect that someone you know may be too shy or embarrassed to admit they're going through some form of mental illness such as depression or anxiety, be the one to reach out to them because you could literally rescue someone from a dark place. Anyway, I wish you well my friend. I hope this song lifts you up. Or, if you know someone who could use a melodic upliftment then please do share this with them or post it on your social media for all your network to see, because you never know who's in need of a positive outlook. Many people hide their sadness, so help make them feel good by sharing this tune, by giving them -and yourself- a smile, by being a friendly, compassionate ear that will listen to them when they may need it most. You are the key to making this world a better, more beautiful, compassionate and amazing place. Thank you for listening and for being uniquely you! This soundtrack was part 2 of 2 teaser trailers that I did the soundtrack on for a full-length Australian feature film called One Less God. It needed to be gritty and intense because the film is based on the horrific true story of the terrorist attack sieges that happened in Mumbai, India in 2008. I worked very closely with the director who was very specific about what he wanted, yet he had absolutely no music understanding at all, so I had to do a lot of musical interpreting. In fact, I had to employ a lot of my polyrhythmic technical knowhow to make it work in sync with the drama unfolding on the screen, as it was a polyrhythmic nightmare puzzle to solve, but solved it I did (that's an interesting story unto itself, that I'll save for another time). INSTRUMENTS: I played a mohan veena (21-stringed hindustani slide guitar), 12-string fretless cümbüs, bass, sung all the vocals, played all the pad, programmed the drums and produced the rest of the track in Cubase Pro. The actors' voices and special fx (guns, door knocks etc) you hear are from the film. If you would like to actually see the trailer for the film with the music in it, please let me know and don't forget to upvote, resteem, follow and comment... What do you most love to do in this life? If you could do or be anything in this world, what would it be? I penned this positive, fun, blues-rock tune to help open-minded listeners, like yourself, find that thing that puts the **STEEM into your engine**, that gives you the **wings to fly high in life!** There's nothing more important than finding at least one thing that you're so passionate about that you're inspired to do it every day, no matter what because it bring joy into your life. Finding that thing that gives you wings gives your life meaning and expression. And when you do that thing every day, you inevitably inspire those around you to also find and do their passion. As with all my one-man band performances and recordings, nothing is looped or pre-recorded in this one-man band performance. I am simultaneously playing the "Violap" Lapsteel Slide guitar (co-designed by Ben Harper), Slide-Didge (modern adaptation of the traditional Aboriginal wind instrument known most commonly as didgeridoo), vocals and electronic foot drums (homemade from wetsuit, plywood, guitar cables, and contact mics into a drum module). *(caveat - I overdubbed an extra didgeridoo part in the later section to act as a bassline)* So dear friend reading this, I do hope you enjoy this performance! <center><h2>Thanks so much for listening. Hilarious story about an Aussie in San Fran, funky didge beatbox, lapsteel slide, 1-man band - Lucky Man Story - naTHAN Kaye - (entry for Steemit Open Mic week 74). ORIGINAL SONG AN UNCONVENTIONAL AUSSIE IN THE USA - TRUE STORY: I wrote this after a mega 2 month tour of UK and Ireland where I ended up in the USA on a crazy road trip to Burning Man Festival via Las Vegas and the Nevada Desert! THE BACK STORY PRE-AMBLE: I've always been a storyteller. That's why I became a film & TV actor and also why I became a musician. Music is a form of storytelling, even when there are no lyrics. But the depth of storytelling got elevated another notch when I was in Ireland. You see, before I got to the States, I had finished playing at a festival in the South East of Ireland and after the fest had ended and everyone left, there was about 40 of us huddled around a huge fire sharing songs and stories. The Irish have this incredible tradition of story songs. That is, songs that start out more like an incredible actor's monologue, but then they literally break into chorus (all together) at key moments, returning back to the story, then back to the chorus... (seriously an incredible cultural tradition that I could rave on for hours about) This was revelationary to me! I then heard a few trad bluesman play in the USA who also had a similar style of storytelling songs. (mind blown!) So as I was experiencing my journeys through the USA, I wrote this song of this hilarious experience I had and I employed this incredible story-song type format that is traditional in Irish culture and African-American blues culture. Ok, so Even though it's a bit different to the normal song entry, I really do hope you enjoy and perhaps get transported into viscerally experiencing what transpires in the story!!! AND IT IS ALL TRUE! As with my previous performances, nothing is looped or pre-recorded in this one-man band performance. I am simultaneously playing the "Violap" Lapsteel Slide guitar (co-designed by Ben Harper), Slide-Didge (modern adaptation of the traditional Aboriginal wind instrument known most commonly as didgeridoo), vocals and electronic foot drums (homemade from wet-suit, plywood, guitar cables, and contact mics into a drum module). Have you thought about your death, your funeral, who'll be there, how they'll remember you and what they'll read on your tombstone? My mother is a Tibetan Buddhist nun and one of the main practices is to visualise one's own death in order to come to terms with our mortality to eliminate fear around it to come to a deeper understanding of the impermanence of a lifetime. In this visualisation you see your friends and relatives mourn for you at your funeral, you read your epitaph and practice being unattached to your ego. I was intrigued by this concept and wondered, not only what others would remember about me, but how I would affect my community, the people I met and the world overall with what I did in this lifetime. What will you do in this life to make this world a better place after you leave? Through this contemplation, I realised that one of my goals was to never enslave anyone with my beliefs, my behaviours and my actions and live my life being only the master of myself and not anyone else, by not being a slave to my thoughts and conditionings, nor be a slave to anyone else's indoctrinations, actions or behaviours. What a better, safer, more loving and compassionate place this planet would be if everyone lived by that edict. These philosophical musings were the fertile ground of where this song was birthed... LYRICS Nobody’s Slave Nobody’s Master By Nathan Kaye Drifting along with the tide, My actions as an innocent child, I would hold the hands of a friend, Too scared to swim in the deep end, I wished I would be king of just me, ‘Cause I feared no one and no one feared me, No one feared me… I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, We fingered rules in the sand, And scratched them out with the other hand, My laughter would scream wild and free, ‘Cause I feared no man and no man feared me, No one feared me… I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, When I die and my body’s in the earth, My soul returned to the place of it’s birth, The inscription on my tomb you will see, That I feared no one and no one feared me, No one feared me… I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, I am nobody’s slave, I am nobody’s master, ©Nathan Kaye 2005 Original version released on the Burning the Candle EP, 2006 Thanks so much for commenting below (because we're hoping you're about to ). It's as if the people who run transnational corporations and politicians who permit these plutocrats to continue practices of ecocide, don't care. But what they don't realise is that we, the people who are awake, have the true power. We are the ones who allow this to continue by being complacent and by not making personal changes within our own lives. we support them with every purchase we make & with every vote we partake in. Yet, each one of us can make changes. We can do this step by step, everyday. These incremental changes make a massive difference, but only when we continue to make these changes and stick with the changes we make. Folk & Singer-Songwriter, depression, Adult Contemporary
After his passing, I felt my friend Neil's spirit visit me to do whatever I could to reach out to others to prevent more unnecessary deaths. I penned this song in the first hour of finding out about his suicide. The hairs on my skin still rise every time I play this song. Can you feel it too? It invites us to feel deeply about those that have left us whilst reminding us about the waves in life & to communicate our feelings... This is dedicated to all who have survived the black dog of depression. If you're feeling down or having thoughts of self-harm, don't be embarrassed or shy or afraid, please contact your country's suicide prevention hotline right now! 30% of sales of this song go to Suicide Prevention Australia. lyrics Silence (Waves of Life) Spoken word intro: We go through the waves of life. We go through the up waves. The good times. We go through the bad times. The down waves. Nothing lasts. The good times don’t last. The bad times don’t last. It’s the cycles of nature. Sometimes, when some of us are in those low waves, those low times, they can forget that the good times are coming back, like my friend Neil, my friend Pat (also good friends Evren, Daryl, Krystle). So I find it really important to say that we must communicate how we’re feeling inside. A problem shared is a problem halved…. Verse 1: Neil, my friend, What made you feel so bad that you had to make it end? Neil, my friend, What made you feel so sad that you couldn’t bend? Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today. Verse 2: Neil, my friend, What message were you trying to send? Neil, my friend, What made you feel so bad? So sad. Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today Pre-chorus: Did you have to break? Did you have to break? Chorus: Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Silence is not the way, Lean on me, Lean on someone today. Today. Today. Neil, my friend, we miss you. This is sage wisdom for the down-hearted. This song is like your friend and trusted advisor. 30% goes to Suicide Prevention Australia. LYRICS Don’t Be Afraid To Fall Verse 1 (a): You sit in your bedroom feeling so small, So hard just to get out ‘cause you are scared you might fall, But you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Verse 1 (b): So you sat crying needing to call, Your phone whispered loneliness, And loneliness made a wall, And you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end. Oh no, it’s not the end. Verse 2: You stand in the hallway, You stare at the door, You’re too scared to open it, You’re scared that you might hit the floor, But you fell didn’t you? You fell despite it all. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end. Oh no, it’s not the end. Verse 3 (a): You feel like a failure, Self doubt in your veins, But your heart won’t fail you, It only heals the pain, But you’ll fall sometimes, You’ll fall despite that pain. Verse 3 (b): Looking for a way out, Self harm on your mind, But that’s just a cop out, No freedom there to find, And you’ll fall sometimes, You’ll fall and, you know, that’s just fine. Chorus: Oh, don’t be afraid, This feeling will change, It’s a choice you made, So now rearrange, Oh, don’t be afraid, Reach out to a friend, Life is like a wave, It’s not the end.
