Newton Val, composer, lyricist, musician, arranger, instrumentalist, musical producer at Valsound Productions and Artistic Promotions in São Paulo-SP / Brazil. This work aims to disseminate the roots of good Brazilian music. It is based on new concepts of arrangements where the first novelty would be the Cavaquinho out of its habitual setting that is the RÉ, SUN, YES, RÉ, also known as "Paraguaçu Tuning" and being replaced by the old tuning also used in "Chorinho Brasileiro Traditional "ie; RÉ, SUN, YES, ME as if they were the first 4 strings of a guitar. In this way, we can play any musical style even reaching the "Jazz" with all its harmonic complexity, simply by doing the right inversions from below and adding the appropriate notes of the desired chords, generating an infinitely possible harmonic chain in their combinations of their intervals. In this way, we can conclude that the world-known musical genre known as "Bossa Nova" gains a new style here, acquiring much more versatility and weight as I explain below: Through the first innovation already described above, I also came to a new conclusion which would be to thicken the rhythmic part of the "Bossa Nova", which was practically based on a piano, a guitar, a bass guitar and a drums, so I asked myself: How would a "Bossa Nova" be played by a School from Samba? Now, since we have a Cavaquinho solving the harmonic part and being the "rhythmic-harmonic center" that serves as reference for the rhythmists of a Samba School, drummers, etç, then we can conclude the following: Samba already suffered by itself only a severe transformation in its rhythm from the 70's until today where the idea would be to increase the rhythm of the samba more, making it look like a mini Samba School where the "Repinique" was adapted to be played without the drumstick, but with two hands and so it came to be called "Repique de Mano". Therefore, these and other innovations gave rise to the new style of samba then called "Pagode" where the rhythm became much hotter and more interesting than before. Well, it was then that through this analogy I went to the experiment where the result was magnificent in my humble opinion. It was then that I decided to record an authorial CD entitled "PORTRAITS OF BRAZIL", presenting here the track # 1 called "SAUDADES DO BRASIL" where I believe I have been able to demonstrate my new conception of arrangements for Brazilian music. I hope with this, to have collaborated with a new musical Age without losing the roots of our people, our culture, our customs. Newton Val recorded his first independent album at age 24, performing on the 10 tracks of "Long Play Newton Val" as a composer, lyricist, singer, arranger where he wrote and conducted the string arrangements for the String Quartet of the University of São Paulo (USP), recording with "Elias Slon et al." instrumentalist in guitar, double bass. He has also worked as a music and executive producer.
The idea of the project "CD PORTRAITS OF BRAZIL" started from the point where taking into account the turn of the century or more precisely from the year 2000 onwards were possible to do real wonders with a computer. Up to this time, there were only computer trials for ordinary people, as computers were still were too expensive and insufficient to support several tracks on the same recording, as we had just left the "Digital Age" to enter with all the force andforever in the "Virtual Age" never commented or imagined. Until this moment, a musical production was very expensive and the studios, musicians, maestros, producers, etç ...required a considerable sum of money so that musical production could be made viable. With the turn of the century and the technological advances, it was already possible the production of incredible savings and also making it possible for musicians to have a new condition never in a simple "Home-Stúdio" with a fantastic quality and this was the great challenge for "Newton Val" that soon began to work and prepare for afuture of that moment of planetary transition. Thus, after much research, trials and experiments,
in mid-2005 it decided to start producing some ndependent
productions in their own "Home-Stúdio" arriving at astonishing results. With the CD "PORTRAITS OF BRAZIL" presented here was not different also, because this CD was "totally" produced in a "Home-Stúdio" in his own residence, only that this time "Newton Val" acted like musician in all the instruments executed on the CD as we can check below:
Compositions (Newton Val) / Letters (Newton Val) / Arrangements (Newton Val) / String instruments (except bows like cello, violin, etc.)
electric guitars, synthesized guitars, keyboards, percussion instruments such as the deaf, tambourine, tambourine, hand chime, rattles, ganzá, etç ... e still worked as a digital programmer with electronic drums, string arrangements (cellos, violins, etç), electronic keyboards, and also as a sound technician, engineer mixing and mastering. That is to say: The cost of all this in reality was "Time" what we can call "Operational Cost" because the financial cost was "Zero."
