After watching a doc on Kate Bush I broke out VCV Rack and created some music in her honour. You may have seen on my blog that I have been doing a load of work with VCV Rack lately. I love this stuff. I can sit for hours and just make up interesting sounds - LOVE IT! Please take the file of "Bush Kate" and have your way! Do what ever you like with the beats. It should be pretty easy to chop it up or manipulate it in all sorts of ways. Have fun and put the link to what ever you come up with in the comments of this post?

I love making music!! I love making music with other people too. Would you like to jam with me? Let's do it!! I have created a little doumbek drum track for everyone to take and manipulate. Do whatever you like with it!! I have been very lucky in my time making music to have studied with some GREAT percussionists. Back in the early 1990's I had the honour to study will one summer with master drummer Kwasi Dunyo from Ghana. Kwasi came Newfoundland in 1992 and stayed with me during his visit. All that summer he taught me the basics of African drumming. I only scratched the surface, but the experience was life-changing. When he came to Newfoundland it was the first time he had been more than 15 miles from his village in Ghana! I studied again with Kwasi in 1994. After studying with Kwasi I spent years playing all sorts of percussion - orchestral, experimental, jazz, African... Collaborating with musicians like Kwasi or with Musicoin musician today is a wonderful experience. Please take this drum track and fill your boots!

This is a lovely waltz from an old time. I love to play this one and keep it fresh. I am playing it very simply without must ornamentation. Keeping it simple can let you enjoy the pure melody. The weather is getting colder here in Newfoundland now and it is getting harder to perform outside. You can see in this video that the wind was blowing :) The camera would shake with the gusts and my bow would blow off the strings. I must be nuts.

John J Geddes is the source of much inspiration. He is an excellent writer. If you have not yet visited his blog please do so before reading any further. I have prepared a short piece of music inspired by John's poem, "The Land of the Little While" I did a few things in particular in this piece: I stuck to a tonal centre (D-major), I use the metre of 3/4 (the waltz, an intimate proposition), I created clearly segmented parts (asymmetrical but clear). I hope you enjoy... I take no credit for John J Geddes' beautiful work. My music is just a reaction to seeing his work. Much like one would write a poem after viewing the "David" statue or paint an image after coming home from seeing Shakespear. @buckydurddle Cheers, BuckyDurddle

This song is a bit of a "Knuckle Breaker." There are some tricky little bits that challenge us fiddlers. Love it though. As I mention in the video, this is a Jig. Which means that the meter of the song is 6/8 or 6 eigth-notes per measure. Try counting along as I play.

Yep, I'm playing fiddle up in the tree-fort. I laid the laptop in a BLOB OF SAP and the ladder was a bit sketchy!!! Do you know how hard it is to get sap off a laptop? Hard! So today I thought I would play a song I learned when I was a little boy - Little Beggarman. I used to hear this tune called Little Beggarboy, but later my dad told me it was Little Beggarman. Who knows???? If you do please tell me? Hope you enjoy...

Ok, I don't really have a split personality. This is actually my cousin Cecil Durddle. "How are you gettin' on, Cecil?" "Best kind, by." There are many great sacred pieces out there. Actually, that is an understatement. There are hundreds of thousands of fantastic sacred pieces. People have been writing sacred works long before Cecil and I were ever born. There is a lot to choose from. I love to open up a hymn book and just start sight reading. You never know what you are going to find.

From Ireland to California - This tune was written during the Goldrush days. The tricky part of this song is in the bowing. The composer called for the bowings to slur across beats. This means that I will often to several notes in 1 bow stroke. I will start a bow on the 2nd half of one beat and pull it through several notes

There is an Irish fiddler named Pete Cooper. Many years ago my father gave me a book of Pete Cooper's fiddle music. I wore it out :) There were so many great tunes in there and they are not too difficult to play. Today I am playing the great Irish tune "Harvest Home." I love this song and I especially like the downward spiralling runs. This pattern shows up in many fiddle tunes. I sometimes play this song very slowly and sometimes quite quick - however the mood strikes me :) Today it is on the high side of medium - Hold on ;)

Chase me Charlie, Auntie Mary, Cock of the North, I have heard this song called a lot of things. If you know another name let me know? This was one of the first jigs I ever learned. I remember rockin' Auntie Mary on stage at a local folk festival at age 13. All those girls in the audience were totally checking me out........... hmmmm ...... perhaps not. I have a video of me playing this tune on https://steemit.com/openmic/@buckydurddle/auntie-mary-had-a-canary-up-the-leg-of-her-drawers-auntie-mary-irish-fiddle-tune

I have always found crypto market graphs to look like music notation. Up and down up and down. I have a detailed description of this piece and video on Steemit.com It is not hard to see how there are similarities between musical notation and the flow of a crypto currency graph. So I took three currencies: ETH, BTC and Steem and produced graphs of their activities over 7 days. I then synchronized my playing of each. I laid down a foundation D on the cello to give some context to the tonal centre. VERY special thanks to @clayboyn for his expertise. This has been a fun experiment and I can already see ways I can expand on this idea. More to come... I hope you enjoy :)

Several months back I recorded several accompaniments and stored them away in the "Accompaniment Orphanage." This is a place I put accompaniments that have not yet found a home. I also have a "Rhythm Orphanage" and a "Melody Orphanage." Today I wrote a melody that needed an accompaniment. I remembered this one. I pulled it out and started working.
