Little Bird I am a singer-songwriter from London, currently based in Moscow, Russia. A lot of my songs are inspired by my hometown. I grew up in the 60s with The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Hendrix et al. I was in London when the Punk scene burst in, rudely awakening us from our Tales of Topographic Oceans! How exhilarating it was!))) Little Bird is, on the face of it, about a pigeon fancier but also explores ideas of death and rebirth. Or it's just another British rock song! Anyway, someone was kind enough to say this: "Fantastic. reminds me of Richard Ashcroft's better stuff." Little Bird Hey little bird! Why don’t you fly? There’s all that room Up in the sky. Hey little bird! Why don’t you fly? You’ve got the wings - You’ve got the sky. Don’t want see a caged bird kept in, Wanna see her taking wing And fly away so high Across the London sky. Fly away so high Across the sky. Granddad was a card And pigeons were his thing. He gave them names And he gave em a ring. Grandma said he loved ‘em more than her And one day she showed him the door And Granddad broke a wing, Couldn’t do his thing. Grandma said they could not stay, Pretty things must fly away. So Granddad let em fly Away across the sky. Granddad didn’t say much For ten years or more. Then one spring He heard a song at his door. Don’t want see a caged bird kept in, Wanna see her taking wing And fly away so high Across the London sky. Hey little bird! Time to fly - You’ve got the wings, You’ve got the sky. Hey little bird! Why don’t you fly? There’s all that room Up in the sky... credits from Back In The Day, released March 28, 2017 written by Steve Elliott license all rights reserved
